Greetings, faithful readers! Hope you’re all easing into your Sunday morning and recovering from the holiday, whichever way you chose to celebrate (or not).
Today’s post was supposed to be the first entry in the “Songs That Mean Something” series, but the week got away from me, and I’m still working out the format for those essays. Instead, I’m sending out a couple of playlists that I’ve been curating over the past year or so.
Those of you who follow me on Bluesky have probably seen me ask for song suggestions for my “Stuff I Wanna Listen To” playlist, which is where I park songs that I want to check out on my weekly commute; these could be recommendations, new songs I’ve discovered via TV or social media, or just tracks I haven’t heard in a while and want to play loudly (and sometimes repeatedly) in the car.
Once the list hits about 50-60 songs, I save the ones I want to keep for later to a permanent set of playlists. I’ve settled into capping these at 250 songs each with four per series, so they’re like K-Tel compilations, but with 1,000 songs. The current series is called “Select Cuts”, and I’m including the first two playlists here for your listening pleasure:

Since there is no rhyme or reason to the sequencing, these are best played on shuffle. Stay tuned for Volume 3, and let me know if you’d like me to post links to the other series, which are called “Picks” and “Curated Favorites”.
Finally, don’t forget to check your inbox for the next “Great Moments in Music” this Tuesday! I have a bunch of good musical bits in the queue.
